Having binged almost the entire game in the last month (lots of couch-time due to knee surgery), I think it's a very solid game. A bit more forgiving than the first game too, imo.

The mining guy in particular was a nice source of machalite ore until I unlocked volcano.

When I first played the game around age 9 I was stuck on him literally for YEARS. I would recommend the following: PREPARE - Bringing 10 potions AND 10 mega-potions to the fight will go a long way. Take some earlier quests to gather materials if you need to - even if you don't complete the objective...

WHEN does the boat man cometh??? By which I mean, when the heck does he offer the third red-bubble quest? I've beaten Lunastra and Kirin (not Black Diablos yet) and have seriously waited season after season. I've tried doing as many blue-bubble quests for other villagers as I can, but his never show...

The drop rate for Daora Claws is awful. To deal with it, I've been following this process using Titania (Dragon Element GS that you can get fairly easily prior to Kushala): 0. DECENT ARMOR (at least 100 defense, and I think(?) ice resistance if you're fighting him in the snowy mountains), 10 Potions...
