When I first played the game around age 9 I was stuck on him literally for YEARS.
I would recommend the following:
PREPARE - Bringing 10 potions AND 10 mega-potions to the fight will go a long way. Take some earlier quests to gather materials if you need to - even if you don't complete the objective, all you lose is the quest fee. I think it would be best to go in with:
10 Potions
10 Mega Potions
5+ Whetstones
5+ Paintballs
1 Pitfall Trap
5 Flash Bombs
LEARN - Kut-Ku's moveset is fairly limited. Learn what attacks take the longest for him to do and where you have to stand to avoid them. Some of them hit areas that his body doesn't actually move through (Capcom has a lot of broken hitboxes in this game). When he stops to stand and roar, take the time to hit him, or heal if your health is low.
AS SOON AS YOU ARE DOWN TO TWO HITS WORTH OF HEALTH, RETREAT AND HEAL, EVEN IF IT MEANS LEAVING THE AREA.
With persistence, you'll get him. So long as you've paintballed him, you can always track him down.
I highly recommend bringing a strong weapon to defeat this monster. The only weapon strong enough to defeat this thing would be the Eternal Annihilator.

i've heard that, before you wound his head and his ears go back, you can use a sonic bomb to stun him. has a goofy lil animation for it.
