Are LR,HR,MR a good Mechanic?

Are the ranks a good way to make a progression system, or would you rather have them not be separate?

I really want to hear peoples opinion on this.

It's fancier than saying rank 20 stars for instance. But that's pretty much about it.

Honestly I prefer the classic way of just "Hunter Rank". I don't like the MR addition, but I understand why they added it.
