Cheat-area discussion: Should cheating be allowed?
Posted: Wed Sep 13, 2023 9:11 pm
To continue and summarize our discussion from Discord I want to archive my position here as well:
Allowing cheats, even in a specified area without some kind of obstacle for genuine players to join,
opens the door to involuntary participation in cheated activities (lets call it passive cheating from here on).
Yes, that might occur now as well, but we have strict rules as of now that avoids grey area scenarios. Examples of such and other issues include:
- Language barrier or missing knowledge may lead to passive cheating
- broken save files
- broken progression
- involuntary bans due to passive cheating
- extra work necessary for the general moderation of what is deemed okay and what not
- unjustified bans might occur
- extra work for the coding team and a necessary moderation of cheating
I'm therefore against allowing it.
