Can I join Online directly?

I'm planning on starting Dos directly with online, 100% blind (I mean, I know that there are things like seasons, but little more) and 100% online.
Do you have to do something offline first? I don't care if it's challenging, that's actually fine to me, but im curious.

Okay, first you need to provide me with your credit card number, the expiration date of it and the THREE FUNKY numbers on the back, then you will be able to access online just fine /j
Well, you have to save the game to be able to access town, pretty much the only requirement.
