Strange Monster Behavior? Real??

"Strange monster behavior" can refer to a lot of things in older Monster Hunter games -- however, I had an encounter in Dos that I tried to document as best I could, so I could share it here! Quick warning, this contains spoilers for a monster and locale that you don't encounter for a while in the village, so open with caution:

It's Lunastra in Area 6 of the Ancient Tower!
My understanding of what got me here is the following sequence of events:

• I ran up the Tower like normal, stopping in area 4 to mine for Bloodrun Jewels

• As I entered area 5, where Lunastra likes to hang out before flying to the top of the Tower, Lunastra was in the middle of leaving, but hadn't noticed me

• I ran over to area 6 and started climbing up to meet Lunastra at area 10

• Lunastra starts flying through area 6, notices me, and lands by the area entrance to start fighting

Thoughts? Have you run into any bizzare monster behavior like this before? Got any theories or explanations for why these dang monsters are so weird?
