[ENGLISH PATCH] Monster Hunter i

Hello everyone!
In case you missed it, Monster Hunter i (MHi)—a game once considered lost media—was successfully preserved last month. Originally developed for Japanese flip phones, this title is a surprisingly solid adaptation of Monster Hunter G for mobile.
As soon as the game was dumped, I began analyzing it and working on a full English translation. Partnering with Yuwika, we divided the workload: she handled the localization of all NPC dialogue, while I focused on the remaining text.
After much effort (thousands and thousands of lines!), we're proud to present the fully translated game! The localization is open-source and available here.
Important Notes About the Game
Due to the original game's space limitations, many resources (such as weapon/armor models, textures, and animations) were downloaded from CAPCOM's servers during gameplay. To address this, we set up a private server (also open-source) that hosts original assets extracted from phone save data. Additionally, we've begun recreating some textures using PS2 assets as references.
However, there are some quirks to be aware of:
- Even if you craft or upgrade equipment, some may have broken textures, or your armor model might not change visually.
- Currently, only Sword & Shield and Greatsword models/animations are fully preserved. Other weapons can still be crafted but will appear broken.
Special Thanks
This project wouldn't have been possible without the help of many individuals and communities:
- The Keitai Wiki community for their efforts in preserving old keitai videogames.
- The monsterhunterwiki.org community for playtesting and documenting everything Monster Hunter-related.
- PlatyPete for his work on the Monster Hunter PS2 wiki, which was invaluable for extracting text data to automatically replace in MHi, as well as for providing extracted PS2 textures and models.
- Axibug_HaoYue and PoogieCharger for analyzing the game's file structure and developing tools to work with them.
- Yuwika for her fantastic NPC dialogue localization.
- Lexx for her work recreating textures.
- Numkl for the initial work creating a font that was used to translate some in-game titles.
- Yuvi for hosting the replacement server.
- CAPCOM for creating this game and the Monster Hunter series.
- All testers and future players who will discover this amazing game.
For installation help, we recommend joining the Keitai Wiki Discord. They have a launcher that simplifies the process and a public archive of keitai games.
NOTE: If you find any translation errors, please report them in this thread!
