Opinions of the Open Beta

Other than the performance issues. What were your thoughts about the beta.

I had a lot of fun with the beta, I did think the menuing to setup link parties and environment link was a bit to confusing for the majority of player. I enjoyed most of the weapon changes but never did get the hang of the new Insect Glaive and Switch Axe changes before the beta period ended.

I really liked the small bit of gameplay i got with gunlance and hunting horn!

And I agree, there are way too many menus, like jesus there is too much ;w;

I played for about 2 hours and really enjoyed it! However, the wound finisher looked a bit off—at times it felt like you were hitting the air instead of the monster. Also, some textures looked surprisingly rough for a PS5 game. But since it’s a beta test, I’m sure many of these issues will be fixed in the final release.

I didn't have any real performance issue while playing on pc (besides maybe a missing texture on the Rey Dau nest). And had fun with most weapons i tested (tho i really can't get used to LS, loved this version of GL). But 2 things i wish they changed was to be able to use the D-Pad for camera movement like on past games, as even if its linked to the new mount, my muscle memory makes me change weapon while trying to move the camera to the right (which is annoying), and that you can't disable the radial menu, so even if you empty the menu you would still have it on your screen while looking for items on your item bar.

Besides those 2 small issues, i really had fun with the beta:
- Great environmental interactions (setting grass on fire, pitfalls, the usual vines and rocks hanging, lightning strikes, etc)
- Randomized spawning monster strenght (which may depend on weather condition too), so hunts may not feel the same every time.
- Maps size and design that seems cohesive (basically how i expected some older segmented maps to look and be size wise)
- Actually challenging low level monster fights (I knew the frog would be weak, but Doshaguma and Balahara were actually cool fights and hit pretty hard for a low level monster)
- The new wound system is interesting and entirely optional, as you can still hunt the old way without any issue, same for the "Wirefall" and the weapon swap using the mount.
- New weapon moves are fun (I hope mega dash juice is back, i want to swing the hammer all day)

Sadly didn't play much on multiplayer so can't really commend on the Link system, was it really that annoying? i thought it looked simple from the description on the manual, but also saw people complaining about it.

It was just a bit of a hassle since you had to both invite the 3 players you want to link with then invite them to an environment link after that, these were both in the start menu. I think it would have been more convenient if there was a quicker menu option in Alma's menu.

Ok that sounds a bit convoluted :( , hopefully they consider changing how that works for the next beta (im sure there will be a second beta before release) if not for release based on the current feedback.

I did a Kokotocast episode with Alpha and Moze about it that will be posted eventually, but I'm hyped as HELL.
